When approaching children’s illustration I always think back to the types of picturebooks I loved as a kid. I adored anything that seemed to have endless detail, pages you could keep coming back to and finding something new in each time. So when creating my own illustrated spreads, I keep this in mind and try to create really layered worlds that you feel you can step into and explore. I especially love to do this with interiors, the more maximalist the better.
This particular set of illustrations is a personal
that I started at uni and continue to develop to
this day. It’s for an ongoing original story
surrounding a neighbourhood of families
who each develop a strong shared interest
that brings them closer together. I have a lot
of fun designing the houses and outfits for
the family which help express their
interest, whether it be music, food or
even space.
